About Jared

Jared Wilson was born in San Diego and raised in Southern California by working class parents.   Jared has been a dedicated member of the San Diego Police Department since 2004. He began his career as a 911 dispatcher and has risen through the ranks to become a Police Sergeant and President of the San Diego Police Officer’s Association.

As a Police Officer, Jared has received numerous commendations, including an award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving, a Life Saving Award, and Officer of the Year Award while working a variety of assignments across the City.  As a Police Officer Jared worked the 2007 Witch Creek Fires in the Rancho Bernardo Poway area and saw the destruction that occurred.  Jared's Aunt Ramona, who lives in Poway District 2, lost her home during the 2003 Cedar Fire.  Jared is proud to be endorsed by Poway Firefighters and knows first hand the danger District Two residents face from wildfire.

Jared and his wife, Melinda, a police detective, have called Poway home since 2016. They are proud parents of two children who attend Painted Rock Elementary.  Jared volunteers as a Cub Scout Leader and serves on the City of Poway Budget Review Committee. He is also an appointed member of the San Diego Citizens Advisory Board on Police/Community Relations. Jared earned a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from San Diego State University.

Recognized for his leadership, Jared was elected by his peers as the President of the San Diego Police Officers Association in January 2022. In this role, he advocates for his fellow officers, public safety, and against radical issues such as police defunding and soft on crime legislation in Sacramento. Jared is also the President of the San Diego Police Officers Foundation Widows and Orphans Fund, a 501C3 founded in 1912 dedicated to supporting police officers and their families during tragedies.

Jared's life exemplifies unwavering dedication to family and community, making him a true leader in public service.  Jared’s goals are to maintain public safety in Poway, and keeping the City in the County a great place to raise a family.
